Are you shy? Then you’re probably a terrorist

Talksport … or so this advertisement for the Anti-Terrorist hotline on talkSPORT would have you believe.

The 40 second advert explicitly suggests that someone who

  • Keeps himself to himself
  • Draws his curtains
  • and pays with cash

is a potential or probable terrorist.

The advert is 40 seconds long and is a must-listen. It's borderline not work safe – not because there's anything rude in it, but because it will make you so angry you'll most likely punch the monitor.

Shame on you, talkSPORT and co.

Jumped the gun on this one a bit ;¬)
I took a walk around my neighbourhood the other day, terrorist spotting.
I identified about 25 suspects, of course these would be the stupid terrorists that don’t open their curtains before noon.
There were untold numbers of clever terrorist suspects that had deviously got up early in the morning to open their curtains and give the impression of innocence, sneaky bastards.
You wouldn’t want to be a goth with a bad credit rating who’s just had a win at the bookies.

I keep myself to myself and I draw my curtains. I was devoted to cash transactions only (no plastic) and regret that I now have credit and debit cards; just because of this stupid advert, I’m going back to cash. Seems like the coin of the realm is a threat!

  • Purlieu

In Sainsbury’s just tonight when she said “Do you have a nectar card” I simply replied “sorry I don’t do that any more” she very nearly called security ffs

  • Shy Hermit

Shy, why er yes. It’s a fair cop guv.
    Witch hunt anybody?
Cash is not inconvenience. It is freedom. Use it or lose it.

    @Purlieu
I imagine that in the future a loyalty card may well be mandatory (in practice) – where you would need to produce it to pass through the check out, there is no law to prevent this happening and a culture that encourages it – the attraction to the large retailers might prove too much.

A friend of mine likes a cigarette occasionally but as she has life insurance cover as a non-smoker she never hands over her loyalty card at the ciggie counter after she has bought her groceries and always pays cash for her baccy. She does use the loyalty card for her groceries though which is something I would never do, despite missing out on the good discounts my friend says the loyalty card earns her. She also recently spent several hundred pounds on renewing all her family passports as she doesn’t care for the fingerprinting bullshit which is coming in for passport applications whether or not we have a Tory government in a couple of months’ time.

    Shy? Curtains drawn?
That sounds like someone who is afraid. Perhaps of criminals, or of state power. It is likely there will be more and more of these as time goes on.
    Terrorist, or terrified?

  • Vince

The man down the street doesn’t talk to his neighbors, because they are citizen spies.
He doesn’t have a bank card, because he knows bankers are crooks.
And he keeps his curtians closed, because he doesn’t want the perverts on the other end of the CCTV cameras getting off on spying on him.
    Who is really the terrorist.
