Proof, if proof were needed, that ID cards are a waste of time

False card ID cards are on sale for £2. Pretty convincing ones, too.

Not only does this demonstrate the uselessness of the scheme – the false certainty such cards cause people to have constitutes a new danger in the world of ID.

Two pro ID Card articles in different national newspapers in rapid succession? Coincidence?
Who are “security company CP”? Who are they linked to?
“CIFAS – a not-for-profit fraud prevention service” a fake charity/service, working on whose behalf? Who is funding CIFAS?
You need to do some homework!

But, Peter… that is plainly an ANTI-ID card article…

CIFAS is a perfectly respectable and honest organisation. It is funded by its members, mostly banks and card issuers, which are listed on its website:
    http://www.cifas.org.uk/default.asp?edit_id=721-28
Its pronouncements on the subject of fraud are considerably more trustworthy than HMG’s.
The fake shown is actually a hopeless one, probably based on the mockups issued a couple of years ago rather than the current design. But since almost no-one knows what they are supposed to look like, it scarcely matters.

CPP, BTW, is a company that sells insurance against loss/theft of your credit cards and other documents, so it has a perfectly rational interest in the subject.

I like the way that ID card shows Gordon Brown’s face but David Cameron’s name :-)
Very unfair on David, but quite funny nonetheless.
