Co-op shop in stupidity shock

Dangerous hoodie In the latest in a series of "surely you've made that up just to irritate me?" stories about jobsworths and fools all over our great land, I bring you this cracker:

Supermarket tells Norwich toddler – take your hood off

A Norwich two-year-old was asked to take down the hood of his anorak when entering a city convenience store – for security reasons.

Hoods, hats and other headgear are banned by many shops due to fears over crime and anti-social behaviour, as it makes it harder to identify offenders using CCTV cameras….

Nice to see everyone's favourite "for your own safety and protection" device used as the excuse for this dumbity.

The two-year-old’s family have "accused shop chiefs of a lack of common sense". Which I think is pretty polite of them. The danger to humanity at large is pictured above. Sigh.

In a classic bit of boy, I never thought I'd read that, his grandfather said…

He’s two years old, and he’s hardly going to rob the store

And the piece wraps up with the old "don't worry,we're looking into it":

Miriam Harrup, spokesman for East of England Co-op, said: “We are investigating what happened.”

Ahem. Really? How long does it take to slap your collective forehead and say sorry?

I recently said to a friend that, on entering a bank or supermarket, the public should be temporarily arrested – and when at the check out / till are granted their freedom (all charges dropped if your account is in order).
Allowing citizens to believe they are free to go about their business as they please (without, of course, causing harm or loss to others) is just going to confuse people.
Speaking as the father to a 2 and a half year old boy, this child really was stepping close to the line, the store would have been well within it’s rights to tazer him, how many more 2 year olds are we going to allow to walk around with their hoods up before we learn.
Well done the CO-OP, it’s through actions like this that we can clean up this filthy nation of terrorists, malcontents and wrong doers.

Co-op idots targeting toddlers. What fools!
    Regarding this policy -
Tell them that you’ll quite happily take your hat off or hood down if they remove their intimidating cameras. Say that you find their cameras upsetting which is why you cover up.
    OR
Completely ignore them and continue shopping. Threaten them with legal action if they harass you. If you are doing nothing wrong you should not be treated like a suspect. Tell them you have the right not to be filmed if you do not want to be.
